TODAY’S GAME: The Generals wrap up their 5-game series at Smokies Park this morning against the Tennessee Smokies. The Generals lead the season series over Tennessee 10-4. Jackson is 4-5 this is year in day games.
GENERALS RECAP: The Generals split a double-header with the Tennessee Smokies on Monday night at Smokies Park, dropping game one, 15-4 and winning game two, 3-1. The Generals (23-16) win the series taking three of the first four in the series. In game one, James Paxton (3-2) suffered the loss and allowed five runs on three hits, two home runs over three innings. Paxton walked four and struck out two. Trey McNutt (1-3) picked up the win for Tennessee. Steven Proscia homered twice in game one, giving him three in his last three games.
In game two, Eric Campbell belted a solo shot to right-center in the top of the first to put Jackson up 1-0. The homer was the third for Campbell. Kalian Sams hit a 2-run home run, his third of the year in the top of the second inning and Jackson went up 3-0. Generals’ starter, Taijuan Walker left the game after 2.2 innings with an injury after allowing one run on three hits, striking out three and walking one. Relievers Brian Moran, Bobby LaFromboise and Carter Capps combined for 4.1 scoreless to hold down the victory. Moran (1-2) picked up the win tossing 1.2 scoreless and Capps earned his third save firing 1.1 scoreless in the sixth and seventh. Daniel Carroll and Denny Almonte collected two hits each in game two.
WHO’S HOT?: RH Carter Capps earned the save in game two last night has not allowed a run in his last 5.2 innings in relief (5 games). This season he is 1-2 with 3 saves and a 2.45 ERA. He has limited opponents to a .236 (16×67) average, while walking 4 and striking out 25. Capps has held opponents scoreless in 11 of 14 relief appearances this season.
THE THIEF: 3B Francisco Martinez has recorded 10 stolen bases in his last 20 games and is currently leads all Mariners Minor Leaguers and the Southern League with 14 steals.
