TODAY’S GAME: The Generals continue their 10-game, 2-city road trip tonight with game 4 of a 5-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field.. The Generals lead the series 2-1. Jackson is in the midst of playing 16 games in 15 days (8-6). On the current road trip to Mobile (2-3) and Chattanooga (2-1) the Generals are 4-4. The Generals are 2 games back of Chattanooga in the SL North second half standings with 7 games remaining in the regular season.

GENERALS RECAP: – The Generals came back Sunday from a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field, 5-4. Mike Zunino was 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI Sunday, upping his average in nine games to .406. Chih-Hsien Chiang was 2-for-4 on the day.  Starter James Gillheeney did not factor in the decision and allowed 4 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits in 4.2 innings of work on the mound, striking out 4 and walking a season high 6 batters. Jonathan Arias walked one and struck out 2 in 2.1 innings behind Gillheeney. Yoervis Medina (5-5) earned the win pitching a scoreless eighth inning for Jackson. Logan Bawcom pitched a scoreless 9th inning to earn his 18th save of the season, 5th with Jackson.

WHO’S HOT?: INF Rich Poythress has hit safely in 7 of his last 10 games, batting .385 (15×39) with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 10 RBI.
-> INF Nate Tenbrink has hit in 8 of his last 9 games. batting .343 (12×35) with 6 runs scored, 1 triple, 1 home run and 2 RBI.

TOPS IN THE SOUTHERN LEAGUE: The Generals lead the league in wins (76), batting average (.263), home runs (109), slugging percentage (.405), total bases (1788) and ERA (3.30)

3RD-BEST SEASON IN FRANCHISE HISTORY: The Generals 76 wins is the 3rd-most in franchise history and most since 2005. The 2005 Diamond Jaxx won 83 games and the 1999 Diamond Jaxx won a record 84 games. Last season the Generals won just 68 games and the most won since becoming at Mariners affiliate in 2006 was 75 that season.

GATOR CHOMP: Mariners 2012 1st rounder out of Florida, C Mike Zunino has hit safely in 7 of 9 games with Jackson, batting .406 (11×32) with 6 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 5 RBI and 4 walks.

VIRAL VIDEO: During last Wednesday’s perfect game pitched by Felix Hernandez in Seattle, a video of the Generals reaction during batting practice has gone viral. The video featuring Felix’s brother Moises has been aired on, MLB Network, ESPN Sports Center and Yahoo Sports today. As of 2:45 this afternoon it had 97,672 views on YouTube.

VIVA LA ROMERO:  INF Stefen Romero has hit safely 41 of 49 games with 21 multi-hit games with Jackson since his promotion, batting .335 (64×192) with 35 runs scored, 14 doubles, 4 triples, 10 home runs and 42 RBI. Romero has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, batting .359 (15×43) with 7 runs scored, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 8 RBI.

MAURER POWER: RH Brandon Maurer has been shut down for the season, but ranks 4th in the Southern League with a 3.20 ERA. He also leads the Generals in wins (9), strikeouts (117) and innings pitched (137.1). Since June 1 he is 7-1 with a 2.50 ERA (24 ER, 86.1 IP) with 10 qualitiy starts in 14 starts. During this stretch has lowered his season ERA from 4.38 to 3.20. In 8 starts since returning from DL on July 3,

“KISS IT GOODBYE”: Over the course of the last 41 games, the Generals have hit 41 home runs, including 12 multi-homer games. The Generals lead the league with 109 homers this season. Jacksonville is 2nd in the league with 101 home runs.

MILLER TIME: SS Brad Miller has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, batting .395 (15×38) with 2 runs scored, 3 doubles, and 4 RBI. He has also hit safely in 25 of 32 games since his promotion to Jackson, batting .322 (39×120) with 14 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 home runs and 11 RBI. He currently leads all Mariners farmhands with 55 multi-hit games this season, batting a combined .334 (178×530) with 103 runs scored, 38 doubles, 5 triples, 14 home runs and 66 RBI. His 178 hits are currently 2nd-most in the Minor Leagues this season.

FIRST ROUND FRENZY: The Generals have had 4 Mariners 1st round picks on the roster this season. INF Nick Franklin (‘09, #27, now in AAA Tacoma), RHP Taijuan Walker (‘10, #43), LHP Danny Hultzen (‘11, #2, now in AAA Tacoma) and C Mike Zunino (‘12, #3)

MARINERS FUTURE IN JACKSON: With the addition of Brad Miller, the Generals roster currently contains 10 of the top 30 prospects in the Seattle Mariners organization, according to Baseball America, including 3 of the top 6.
