TODAY’S GAME: The Generals continue their final homestand of the season tonight with game 2 of the 5-game series with Jacksonville (MIA). The Generals are 4 games back of Chattanooga in the SL North 2nd half standings with 4 games remaining in the regular season. Jackson is 3-3 against the Suns this season and dropped 3 of 5 June 7-11 at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

GENERALS RECAP: – The Generals opened their final regular season homestand Thursday with a 7-3 win over the Jacksonville Suns at Pringles Park.  James Paxton (9-4)  earned his 9th with of the season allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits over 6.0 innings on the mound. Paxton struck out 6 and walked 2. Logan Bawcom pitched the final 2/3 of an inning in the 9th and tallied his 19th save of the season, striking out one.  Brad Miller was 3-for-4, scoring 3 runs, while Stefen Romero provided 2 RBI and was 2-for-4. Mike Zunino racked up 3 RBI and was 1-for-3 Thursday night.

HOME SWEET PRINGLES: The Generals have won 4 straight home games and are 42-24 at home this season as opposed to 35-35 on the road. Jackson is batting .269 at home and .253 on the road. Jackson’s team ERA is 2.91 at home and 3.75 on the road.

TOPS IN THE SOUTHERN LEAGUE: The Generals lead the league in wins (77), batting average (.261), home runs (110), slugging percentage (.402), total bases (1811) and ERA (3.33)

3RD-BEST SEASON IN FRANCHISE HISTORY: The Generals 77 wins is the 3rd-most in franchise history and most since 2005. The 2005 Diamond Jaxx won 83 games and the 1999 Diamond Jaxx won a record 84 games. Last season the Generals won just 68 games and the most won since becoming at Mariners affiliate in 2006 was 75 that season.

GATOR CHOMP: Mariners 2012 1st rounder out of Florida, C Mike Zunino has hit safely in 9 of 12 games with Jackson, batting .349 (15×43) with 6
runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 8 RBI and 4 walks.

HISTORIC SEASON FOR MARINERS MINORS: The Mariners 9 minor league affiliates have put together the best season in club history, combining for a 481-397 (.547) record as of (8/30). Currently all but three of the Mariners affiliates have qualified for the postseason in 2012. The organization currently leads all Major League farm systems in wins (481) and winning percentage (.547).

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE ROSTER ANNOUNCED: The Arizona Fall League is set to begin its 20th season on Tuesday, October 9. Each AFL team is comprised of 5 major league organizations working cooperatively. Each organization is required to assign six of their most promising Major League prospects to the league. The roster includes 2012 Generals pitchers Logan Bawcom, Bobby LaFromboise and James Paxton. They will join position players Stefen Romero, Mike Zunino and Nick Franklin. They will join pitcher Carson Smith and infielder Vinnie Catricala, and. Romero is listed as a “taxi squad” member, which means he is only activated only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Generals pitching coach Lance Painter will serve as Pitching Coach for the Peoria Javelinas.

VIVA LA ROMERO:  INF Stefen Romero has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games with 7 multi-hit efforts, batting .342 (26×76) with 15 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 12 RBI. Romero has also hit safely 44 of 52 games (w/AB) with 22 multihit games with Jackson since his promotion, batting .333 (69×207) with 35 runs scored, 14 doubles, 4 triple, 10 home runs and 44 RBI.

MAURER POWER: RH Brandon Maurer has been shut down for the season, but ranks 4th in the Southern League with a 3.20 ERA. He also leads the Generals in wins (9), strikeouts (117) and innings pitched (137.1). Since June 1 he is 7-1 with a 2.50 ERA (24 ER, 86.1 IP) with 10 qualitiy starts in 14 starts. During this stretch has lowered his season ERA from 4.38 to 3.20. In 8 starts since returning from DL on July 3,

“KISS IT GOODBYE”: Over the course of the last 44 games, the Generals have hit 42 home runs, including 12 multi-homer games. The Generals lead the league with 110 homers this season. Jacksonville is 2nd in the league with 101 home runs.

ALL ABOUT THE HITS: SS Brad Miller currently ranks 2nd amongst all Minor Leaguers this year with 182 hits. Only Reno’s Adam Eaton (193) has recorded more hits than Miller this season. Miller is currently batting .335 (182×543) with 106 runs scored, 39 doubles, 5 triples, 14 home runs and 67 RBI in 133 games combined between High Desert and Jackson.

FIRST ROUND FRENZY: The Generals have had 4 Mariners 1st round picks on the roster this season. INF Nick Franklin (‘09, #27, now in AAA Tacoma), RHP Taijuan Walker (‘10, #43), LHP Danny Hultzen (‘11, #2, now in AAA Tacoma) and C Mike Zunino (‘12, #3)
