Generals Game Central (Monday, April 16) After a very long night

TODAY’S GAME: The Generals and Braves play game two of a five-game series today at Pringles Park. The Braves lead the all-time series 74-70. The two teams will meet 13 times this season, 10 times at Pringles Park.

GENERALS RECAP:  – Ian Gac homered against Generals infielder Eric Campbell in the top of the 16th inning Sunday night at Pringles Park, giving the M-Braves a 4-3 win. The series opener lasted 5 hours, 3 minutes and 13 pitchers were used, including 2 position players. It was the 3rd straight loss for the Generals who dropped to 7-4 on the season, but still hold a 1 game ahead of Tennessee in the North division standings. Campbell took the loss, allowing just 1 run in 3.0 relief innings, the first of his career. LH Brian Moran (2.0,0,0,0,0,1), RH Stephen Pryor (2.0,0,0,0,0,5), LH Bobby LaFromboise (3.0,1,0,0,2,2) and RH Carter Capps (1.0,0,0,0,1,2) combined to toss 8.0 innings of shutout baseball on 1 hit. Starter Andrew Carraway (5.0,10,3,3,2,3) was lifted after 5.0 innings, giving up 3 runs on 10 hits. LF Daniel Carroll led the Generals going 4×7 with a game tying RBI in the 6th inning. DH Joe Dunigan (3×7, R, 2B, 3B) and 2B Gabriel Noriega (2×4, RBI, 2 BB) each finished with multi-hit games.

WHO’S HOT?: 2B Eric Campbell, who did not have an at-bat yesterday, has hit safely in all 6 games he has appeared this season, batting .389 (7×18) with 2 runs scored, 1 double, 1 home run and 2 RBI. SS Nick Franklin has reached base in all 10 he has appeared this season, while recording a hit in 8 games. He is currently batting .275 (11×40) with 3 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 home run and 5 RBI. The Generals pitching staff has struck out a league-best 112 batters so far this season and ranks 2nd in ERA at 2.60. RH Carter Capps (6.2 IP), LH Brian Moran (6.0), LH Steve Garrison (4.1) and RH Moises Hernandez (2.1) have yet to allow a run this season. The bullpen is a combined 3-1 with 4 saves and a 1.30 ERA (7 ER, 47.0 IP) while walking 17 and striking out 49 strikeouts this season.

TRANSACTIONS: LHP Steve Garrison and OF Daniel Carroll were both placed on the 7-day disabled list. OF Kalian Sams was reinstated from the disabled list and transferred from High Desert to Jackson. RHP Jandy Senawas also promoted from High Desert.

James Paxton

PAXTON SL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: LHP James Paxton was named Southern League Player of the Week, April 5-15. Paxton went 1-0 with a 0.87 ERA (1 ER, 10.1 IP), while walking 1 and striking out 17 in his first 2 start this season. He has limited opponents to a .167 (6×36), while allowing only 1 extra-base hit (2B). He currently ranks T2nd in the league in strikeouts (17) and T5th in ERA (0.87). The 23-year-old lefty is rated as the No. 3 prospect for the Seattle Mariners, according to Baseball America. He was drafted by Seattle in the fourth round of the 2010 draft out of the University of Kentucky.

Why did Franklin not play? He just had a day off? on Friday?

Yes, after the 16 inning marathon I think they just wanted to give him a day off
