GENERALS RECAP: Lefty Anthony Fernandez tossed a two-hit shutout on Thursday night in Pensacola, as Jackson blanked the Blue Wahoos, 6-0. Fernandez logged his second straight complete game to start his Double-A career, allowing just one run. The 22-year-old righty struck out eight and walked one, facing just three over the minimum. Fernandez got offensive help in the top of the third when 3B Nate Tenbrink blasted his second homer of the series to left, a 2-run shot giving Jackson an early 2-0 advantage. In the fifth, DH Joe Dunigan and C Ralph Henriquez opened the inning with singles. After two strikeouts, LF Chris Pettit delivered an RBI single scoring Dunigan, extending the lead to 3-0. The next batter, 2B Stefen Romero drilled a 3-run homer off the left field foul pole to give Jackson a 6-0 edge. Chris Pettit was 2-for-5 in the game and Ralph Henriquez finished the night 2-for-4 to lead the Generals offensively.

GENERALS RECAP: Blue Wahoos’ starter Tony Cingrani struck out a Pensacola record 15 batters en route to eight shutout innings pitched as Jackson fell, 5-0. The Wahoos lefty faced just one above the minimum on Wednesday at Maritime Park. Cingrani tossed did not allow a General to reach base safely until 3B Leury Bonilla singled in the seventh with one out. The Pensacola win evened the series at 1-1. Jackson starter RH Forrest Snow (0-2) retired 12 in a row after a 42 pitch first inning, but still took the loss. In 4.2 innings, he allowed two runs on three hits (all in the first inning), while striking out two and walking three. Cingrani (2-1) earned the win striking out 15 and walking one over eight innings pitched. Cingrani allowed three hits. 2B Stefen Romero was 0x3, and had his 6-game hitting streak come to an end. RF Chih-Hsien Chiang led the Generals with 3 RBI, going 2×4 and 1 double. 1B Eric Campbell hit his hit his 5th home run of the season with a 2-out solo shot in 5th inning. Starter Taijuan Walker (3.0,4,5,5,4,5,HR) tossed 2.0 hitless innings before the Stars’ scored 5 in the 3rd inning. GENERALS RECAP: The Generals (44-30, 2-2) fell to Huntsville on Sunday afternoon at Pringles Park, 5-2, despite outhitting Huntsville 9-8. RH Brandon Maurer tossed seven quality innings, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out eight in a no decision. LF Chris Pettit was 1×3 and added a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 5th that tied the game at 2-2. Huntsville rallied for 3 runs in the 9th and went on to take game 4 of the series. RF Chih-Hsien Chiang led Jackson at the plate, going 2×4. RH Jonathan Arias (0-2, 18.00) took the loss after giving up three runs in the 9th. Huntsville’s Darren Byrd (2-2, 3.07) took the win after pitching a scoreless eighth inning. Jesus Sanchez pitched his way to his ninth save of the season.

GENERALS RECAP: Starter Anthony Fernandez allowed 1-run in a 9-inning complete game in his Double-A debut as Jackson defeated Huntsville 5-1 on Saturday night. Fernandez (9.0,6,1,1,1,5) allowed a run in the 2nd inning, but only 4 hits over the final 7.0 innings to pick up his first Double-A win. It was the first 9-inning complete game for Jackson, since Nick Hill on August 10, 2009 at Carolina. DH Joe Dunigan (3×4, R, HR, RBI) hit his 13th home run, a 2-out 3-run home run in the 6th inning, and also led the team with season-high tying 3 hits. He has hit home run in back-to-back games, while also hitting 6 homers in last 13 games. 2B Stefen Romero (2×4, R, 3B, HR, 4 RBI) recorded his 3rd consecutive multi-hit game since his promotion from High Desert and knocked in 4 RBI, including a 3-run homer in 3rd inning.

GENERALS RECAP: The Generals evened the series at 1-1 with a 7-4 win over Huntsville on Friday night. Jackson collected 15 hits, while all 9 starters in the lineup recorded at least 1 hit. 2B Stefen Romero (2×5, R, 2B, RBI) collected his 2nd-straight multi-hit game to start his Double-A career, going 2×5. Joe Dunigan recorded his 13th home run, a 2-out 2-run home run in the 6th inning, and gave the Generals a 6-4 lead. LF Chris Pettit (3×4, 2 R, RBI) and SS Gabriel Noriega (3×4, R) each led the team with 3 hits, combining to go 6×8 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. Starter Forrest Snow (5.1,5,4,4,2,6) picked up a no decision after allowing 4 runs on 5 hits in 5.1 innings. Relievers Moises Hernandez (1.0,2,0,0,0,0), Mauricio Robles (0.2,0,0,0,0,0), Yoervis Medina (1.0,1,0,0,1,1) and Carter Capps(1.0,1,0,0,0,2) combined to hold the Stars scoreless over the final 3.2 innings. Hernandez allowed 1 hit in 1.0 scoreless inning to earn his 4th win of the season, while Capps picked up his 10th save. Capps has not allowed an earned run in his last 22.0 innings in relief.

THE WEEK OF TRANSACTIONS: INF Nate Tenbrink completed his rebab assignment with the AZL Mariners and was reinstated from the DL and assigned to Jackson. RH Andrew Kittredge was also promoted Jackson from A Clinton yesterday. LHP Brian Moran was promoted to AAA Tacoma yesterday, while LHP Danny Hultzen and INF Nick Franklin to Tacoma on Wednesday. LHP Anthony Fernandez, RHP Jonathan Arias and INF Stefen Romero were all promoted to Jackson from A High Desert on Thursday. OF Chih-Hsien Chiang cleared waivers and will be active with Jackson. Chiang designated for assignment on June 16 to create room on the 40-man roster for LHP Oliver Perez.

GENERALS RECAP: The Generals dropped the opener in the 2nd half Thursday at Pringles Park, in front of 3,071, 4-3. A 9th inning home run by former Tennessee Vol star Kentrail Davis spoiled a 3-run comeback by Jackson. 2B Stefen Romero went 2-for-4 in his Double-A debut, picking up a double in the process. LF Kalian Sams also had two hits in the game. Generals’ starter LH Steve Garrison tossed 7.0 innings, allowing 9 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out five. Newly-promoted General RH Jonathan Arias was given the loss after allowing Davis’ homer in the ninth inning. 1B Eric Campbell scored all 3 of the Generals runs Thursday.

PANK TO THE FUTURE…WALKER TOO: Generals Manager Jim Pankovits was selected as a coach for the U.S. All-Star
team and will coach along side manager George Brett. RHP Taijuan Walker was selected to play for the U.S. squad in the 14th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game to be played July 8 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City (2 p.m. PT/ESPN2, MLB Network Radio) as part of All-Star weekend. Walker is 4-3 with a 3.79 ERA (24 ER, 57.0 IP) in 12 starts with Jackson. He has limited opponents to a .249 (53×247) average, while walking 23 and striking out 59 in 57.0 innings. As one of the youngest players in the Southern League, he has allowed 2 or less earned runs in 9 of his 12 starts this season, including holding opponents scoreless in 3 starts.

FIRST HALF CHAMPIONS: Jackson won their 4th first half Championship in club history with a 42-28 record and ended the half with a 7-game lead in the division. The 42 first half wins ranked 3rd all-time in franchise history during a first half.

MORAN PROMOTED TO TACOMA, TENBRINK, KITTREDGE RETURN

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 22, 2012) –The Seattle Mariners have made the following roster move that effects the Jackson Generals roster. Today LHP Brian Moran has been promoted to Triple-A Tacoma and INF Nate Tenbrink returns to the Generals roster after a long stint on the disabled list and concluding a rehab assignment with the AZL Mariners. Also, RHP Andrew Kittredge has been activated back to the Jackson roster, from Clinton. Current disabled General INF Rich Poythress will begin a rehab assignment with the AZL Mariners.

Brian Moran promoted to Tacoma

MORAN, 23, joins fellow Generals Bobby LaFromboise, Danny Hultzen and Nick Franklin in Triple-A Tacoma. Moran has held opponents scoreless in 20 of 24 relief appearances this season. He is currently 1-2 with a 1.10 ERA (4 ER, 31.2 IP). He has limited opponents to a .248 average (30×121) with 6 walks and 29 strikeouts. The 23-year-old from Rye, NY is an alum of the University of North Carolina and was drafted by the Mariners in the 7th round, in 2009.

TENBRINK, 25, rejoins Jackson after missing the first 71 games of the season on the disabled list due to a fractured right elbow. Tenbrink played in 1 game for the AZL Mariners and went 4-for-4 with a triple 2 run and 2 RBI against the AZL Padres Wednesday. Tenbrink was limited to only 64 games with Jackson after being placed on the DL on June 30th. Last season he batted .218, with 6 home runs and 25 RBI. 2010 was a breakout season for the former Kansas State Wildcat as he led all Mariners farmhands with 26 stolen bases, while finishing 6th with a .318 average (130×409) combined between A and AA…began season with High Desert, hitting safely in 36 of 44 games. The Olathe, KS native was the Mariners 7th round selection in the 2008 draft.

KITTREDGE, 22, Two days after being sent back to Low-A Clinton, Kittredge returns to the Jackson roster. He appeared in just 1 game for the Generals allowing 1 run 1 hit in 1.1 innings pitched last Friday against Chattanooga. With Clinton, he was 1-0, with a 1.23 ERA in 3 games.

GENERALS RECAP: The Generals closed out their 10th series win of the season, taking the rubber match of the 5-game set against Chattanooga, 7-5 on Sunday. The Generals finished the first half with the best record in the Southern League at 42-28, while their 42 wins ranks as the 3rd-most in franchise history during a first half. 3B Leury Bonilla (3×4, R, HR, 5 RBI) set a seaon-high with 5 RBI, going 3×4 with a 3-run home run. 1B Jharmidy De Jesus (3×3, 2 R) recorded the team’s only other multihit game, going 3×3 with 2 runs scored. Starter Brandon Maurer 5 runs on 8 hits in 4.0 innings, but didn’t figure into the decision. Relievers Mauricio Robles (2.0,1,0,0,1,2), Yoervis Medina (1.1,1,0,0,1,2), Brian Moran (0.1,0,0,0,0,1) and Carter Capps (1.1,2,0,0,0,1) combined to toss 5.0 scoreless innings in relief. Robles recorded his first win with Jackson, while Capps earned his 9th save of the season, recording the final 5 outs.

ALL-STAR RECAP: Mississippi’s Todd Cunningham hit an RBI single to spark a 3-run second inning as the South Division rallied for a 6-2 win over the North Division in Southern League All-Star game. CF Denny Almonte led off the game with a solo home run to give the North an early lead, while start Danny Hultzen walked 1 and struck out 1 in 1.0 scoreless inning. The loss for the North Division snapped an 8-game win streak over the South Division in the SL All-Star game.

DUNIGAN WINS HOME RUN DERBY: Dunigan won the 2012 Southern League Home Run Derby. North Division teammates Dunigan and Justin Bour, both left-handed hitters, smacked 5 homers apiece in the 1st round and 1 in what was supposed to be the championship showdown. Forced to go an extra round, Bour again homered once. But, Dunigan cleared the fence on his 2nd and 3rd swings, his winning blast landing high on the hill in right-center. Generals outfielder Denny Almonte also participated in the home derby.

HULTZEN/FRANKLIN TO TACOMA: Jackson All-Stars Danny Hultzen and Nick Franklin were each promoted to Tacoma on Wednesday. Hultzen led the league in most pitching categories and was 8-3, with a 1.19 ERA. Franklin had the 2nd highest batting average in the league at .322, with 4 home runs and 26 RBI.

JACKSON ADDS STARS FROM A+ HIGH DESERT: The Generals raided the A+ High Desert Mavericks plucking star INF Stefen Romero, who boasts a .357 batting average, the best in the M’s system. Joining Romero in Jackson is LHP Anthony Fernandez who will start Saturday, and reliever Jonathan Arias.

CAPPING OFF GAMES: RH Carter Capps has not allowed an earned run in his last 21.0 innings in relief (15 games). This season he is 2-2 with 9 saves and a 1.34 ERA (5 ER, 33.2 IP). He has limited opponents to a .194 (24×124) average, while walking 10 and striking out 51. Capps has held opponents scoreless in 21 of 24 relief appearances this season. His 13.63 strikeouts per 9.0 innings currently ranks 2nd amongst all relievers in the Southern League. After allowing 5 runs in 4.0 innings in his first start of the season.
