GENERALS RECAP: – The Generals opened their final regular season homestand Thursday with a 7-3 win over the Jacksonville Suns at Pringles Park.  James Paxton (9-4)  earned his 9th with of the season allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits over 6.0 innings on the mound. Paxton struck out 6 and walked 2. Logan Bawcom pitched the final 2/3 of an inning in the 9th and tallied his 19th save of the season, striking out one.  Brad Miller was 3-for-4, scoring 3 runs, while Stefen Romero provided 2 RBI and was 2-for-4. Mike Zunino racked up 3 RBI and was 1-for-3 Thursday night.

HOME SWEET PRINGLES: The Generals have won 4 straight home games and are 42-24 at home this season as opposed to 35-35 on the road. Jackson is batting .269 at home and .253 on the road. Jackson’s team ERA is 2.91 at home and 3.75 on the road.

Currently all but three of the Mariners affiliates have qualified for the postseason in 2012. ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE ROSTER ANNOUNCED: The Arizona Fall League is set to begin its 20th season on Tuesday, October 9. Each AFL team is comprised of 5 major league organizations working cooperatively. Each organization is required to assign six of their most promising Major League prospects to the league. The roster includes 2012 Generals pitchers Logan Bawcom, Bobby LaFromboise and James Paxton. They will join position players Stefen Romero, Mike Zunino and Nick Franklin. They will join pitcher Carson Smith and infielder Vinnie Catricala, and. Romero is listed as a “taxi squad” member, which means he is only activated only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Generals pitching coach Lance Painter will serve as Pitching Coach for the Peoria Javelinas.

VIVA LA ROMERO:  INF Stefen Romero has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 games with 7 multi-hit efforts, batting .342 (26×76) with 15 runs scored, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 5 home runs and 12 RBI. Romero has also hit safely 44 of 52 games (w/AB) with 22 multihit games with Jackson since his promotion, batting .333 (69×207) with 35 runs scored, 14 doubles, 4 triple, 10 home runs and 44 RBI.

RH Johermyn Chavez hit his 8th home run of the season, a solo blast to lead off the 8th inning, to break up the shutout. TODAY’S GAME: The Generals wrap up their 10-game, 2-city road trip this afternoon with the rubber match of the 5-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field. Jackson is in the midst of playing 16 games in 15 days (8-7). On the road trip to Mobile (2-3) and Chattanooga (2-2) the Generals are 4-5. The Generals are 3 games back of Chattanooga in the SL North second half standings with 6 games remaining in the regular season.

GENERALS RECAP: – Jackson was limited to just 4 hits on Monday, falling to the Lookouts at AT&T Field, 6-1. The Generals struck first for their only run on Monday night in the top of the 2nd inning. With the bases loaded Rich Poythress scored on a double play hit into by Johermyn Chavez, making the score 1-0. Chattanooga rallied with 2 outs in the 3rd and after a walk to Jan Vasquez; he scored on hit by leadoff man Rafael Ynoa to tie the game at 1-1. The Lookouts big inning was the 4th inning scoring 3 runs against starter Anthony Fernandez. Chattanooga scored on a bases loaded walk by C.J. Retherford, RBI ground out from Nick Buss and home run from Jake Lemmerman. Chattanooga took a 4-1 edge. The Lookouts went on to score a run in the 5th and 7th winning game 4 of the series, 6-1. Jackson starter Anthony Fernandez (4-3) suffered the loss giving up 4 runs on 4 hits in 4.0 innings of work. Fernandez walked 3 and struck out 2. Steve Garrison pitched the final 4.0 innings for Jackson and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2. Lookouts starter and Dodgers top prospect Zach Lee (4-3) earned the win giving up just a run on 3 hits over 6.0 innings. Chattanooga relievers Rubby De La Rosa, Paco Rodriguez and Stephen Ames blanked Jackson over the final 3.0 frames.

GENERALS RECAP: – The Generals came back Sunday from a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field, 5-4. Mike Zunino was 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI Sunday, upping his average in nine games to .406. Chih-Hsien Chiang was 2-for-4 on the day.  Starter James Gillheeney did not factor in the decision and allowed 4 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits in 4.2 innings of work on the mound, striking out 4 and walking a season high 6 batters. Jonathan Arias walked one and struck out 2 in 2.1 innings behind Gillheeney. Yoervis Medina (5-5) earned the win pitching a scoreless eighth inning for Jackson. Logan Bawcom pitched a scoreless 9th inning to earn his 18th save of the season, 5th with Jackson.

WHO’S HOT?: INF Rich Poythress has hit safely in 7 of his last 10 games, batting .385 (15×39) with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 10 RBI.

GENERALS RECAP: – The Lookouts came from 4 runs down Saturday night to beat the Generals, 8-5 at AT&T Field. The Lookouts win evened the series and places them 3.0 games up in the division with eight games to play. The Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 4th inning, getting back-to-back-to-back doubles from Mike Zunino, Johermyn Chavez and Kalian Sams. With Jackson leading 3-1 in the 5th inning, Rich Poythress belted a 2-run homer down the left field line extending the advantage to 5-1. Chattanooga rallied and scored 5 runs in the 6th inning against reliever Jose Jimenez. The Lookouts took advantage of 2 Jackson errors in the 7th and an RBI from Jake Lemmerman, scoring 2 additional runs and getting it to 8-5. Jackson starter James Paxton went just 4.0 innings, allowing a run on 5 hits, walking 4 and striking out 5. Jose Jimenez (1-2) took the loss and surrendered 6 runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings of relief, walking 2 and plunking a batter. He did strike out 5. Offensively Rich Poythress was 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored. Mike Zunino was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Joe Dunigan and Rich Poythress paced the Generals offense, each finishing the night 2-for-4. Brad Miller was 0-for-3 and saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end. Mike Zunino was 0-for-4 and had his five-game hitting streak end. Denny Almonte was 1-for-4, blasting his 11th home run of the season.Starter Taijuan Walker (7-8) suffered the loss, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits in the 1st inning, but surrendered just a run on 2 hits in the final 4.2 innings of his outing. TODAY’S GAME: Tonight, the Generals play the middle game of the 5-game series in Mobile with the series tied 1-1. Jackson is in the midst of playing 16 games in 15 days (5-3). On the current road trip to Mobile (1-1) and Chattanooga the Generals are 1-1. The Generals are 2 games back of Chattanooga in the SL North second half standings. 

GENERALS RECAP: – Rich Poythress (pictured right) was 3-for-6 with 2 homers and 3 RBI Monday as Jackson split a double-header with Mobile at Hank Aaron Stadium. The Generals won game one, 4-2 and dropped game two 4-3. Jackson blasted 4 home runs total in the twin bill, two in each game. C Mike Zunino (1×4, HR, RBI) homered in game one along with Poythress. LH James Paxton (8-4) earned the win in game one, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings. Paxton struck out 6 and walked two. RH Logan Bawcom pitched a scoreless 7th inning and earned his 2nd Jackson save and 15th overall this season. In game two Poythress and Joe Dunigan (1×3, HR, RBI) homered. Dunigan now leads the league with 24 home runs this season. LH Anthony Fernandez (4-2) suffered the loss in game 2, allowing 4 runs, 3 earned on 6 hits in 4.1 innings. Fernandez walked 2 and struck out 5. SS Brad Miller was 2-for-3 in game two and combined to go 3-for-6 in the two games with an RBI and run scored.
