TODAY’S GAME: The Generals continue their 10-game road trip tonight with game one of a 5-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field.. Jackson is in the midst of playing 16 games in 15 days (6-5). On the current road trip to Mobile (2-3) and Chattanooga the Generals are 2-3. The Generals are 3 games back of Chattanooga in the SL North second half standings with 10 games remaining in the regular season.
GENERALS RECAP: – Mobile scored 4 runs in the first inning Thursday and went on to defeat the Generals 5-2, taking the series. Joe Dunigan and Rich Poythress paced the Generals offense, each finishing the night 2-for-4. Brad Miller was 0-for-3 and saw his seven-game hitting streak come to an end. Mike Zunino was 0-for-4 and had his five-game hitting streak end. Denny Almonte was 1-for-4, blasting his 11th home run of the season.Starter Taijuan Walker (7-8) suffered the loss, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits in the 1st inning, but surrendered just a run on 2 hits in the final 4.2 innings of his outing. Overall Walker tossed 5.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3. Jonathan Arias posted 2.1 scoreless frames behind Walker, allowing just 2 hits. Mobile starter Chase Anderson (5-3) picked up the win.

MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM STREAKING: The Mariners had a day off yesterday and have won 8 straight games, the longest streak since winning 8 in a row June 23-July 1, 2007. Seattle has won 15 of 16 at Safeco Field, the best 15-game home stretch in franchise history. Seattle is 25-13 (.658) since the All-Star Break, the best record in the AL.
VIRAL VIDEO: During last Wednesday’s perfect game pitched by Felix Hernandez in Seattle, a video of the Generals reaction during batting practice has gone viral. The video featuring Felix’s brother Moises has been aired on MLB.com, MLB Network, ESPN Sports Center and Yahoo Sports today. As of 2:20 this afternoon it had 97,111 views on YouTube.
VIVA LA ROMERO: INF Stefen Romero had his 13-game hitting streak end Saturday, but he has hit safely 39 of 47 games (w/AB) with 21 multi-hit games with Jackson since his promotion, batting .339 (62×183) with 32 runs scored, 14 doubles, 4 triple, 9 home runs and 40 RBI. Romero has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games, batting .383 (13×34) with 6 runs scored, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 8 RBI.
MAURER POWER: RH Brandon Maurer ranks 3rd in the Southern League with a 3.20 ERA. He also leads the Generals in wins (9), strikeouts (117) and innings pitched (137.1). Since June 1 he is 7-1 with a 2.50 ERA (24 ER, 86.1 IP) with 10 quality starts in 14 starts. During this stretch has lowered his season ERA from 4.38 to 3.20. In 8 starts since returning from DL on July 3,
“KISS IT GOODBYE”: Over the course of the last 38 games, the Generals have hit 37 home runs, including 11 multi-homer games. The Generals lead the league with 105 homers this season. Jacksonville is 2nd in the league with 98 home runs.
RECORD SETTING PACE: The Generals 74 wins is the fastest to that mark since 2005. The Generals are 5 games off the pace off of the 2005 Diamond Jaxx that won 83 games and 6 off the pace of the 1999 Diamond Jaxx that won a record 84 games. Last season the Generals won just 68 games and the most won since becoming at Mariners affiliate in 2006 was 75 that season.
