TODAY’S GAME: With the series tied at 1-1, the Generals play game 3 of the 5-game set against the Birmingham Barons (CHW) tonight at Regions Park. This is the lone visit Jackson pays to Birmingham. The Generals took 4 of 5 from the Barons, April 5-9 at Pringles Park to open the 2012 season.

GENERALS RECAP: LF Joe Dunigan (1×4, R, HR, RBI) hit his league-leading 20th home run of the season and starter Brandon Maurer allowed 1 run over 6.0 innings as Jackson defeated Birmingham 5-4 on Monday night. 2B Stefen Romero (pictured right, Jesse Garrett) (2×4, R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI), who led the team in both hits and RBI, hit his 5th home run for Jackson, a 3-run blast in the 5th inning that gave the Generals a 5- 1 lead. Maurer (6.0,3,1,0,1,7) earned his 8th win of the season, allowing 1 run (0 ER) on 3 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 7. LH Mauricio Robles (0.1,3,3,3,2,0) allowed 3 runs in bottom of the 7th inning, but LH Jose Jimenez (1.0,1,0,0,0,0) and RH Yoervis Medina (1.2,1,0,0,2,2,) held Birmingham scoreless over the final 2.2 innings to secure the win. Medina earned his 2nd save of the season with a scoreless 1.2 innings.

MARINERS ACTIVE AT DEADLINE: Seattle acquired outfielder Leon Landry and right-handed pitcher Logan Bawcom (bah-cuhm) from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Brandon League. Also the M’s acquired outfielder Eric Thames from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed relief pitcher and former General Steve Delabar.

OLD CLOSER – MEET THE NEW CLOSER: RH Carter Capps struck out 3 over 1.1 hitless and scoreless innings of work over the 8th and 9th last night in his first outing for AAA Tacoma. RH Yoervis Medina has allowed 1 run in his last 31.1 innings in relief (0.29 ERA). GENERALS RECAP: The Generals dropped the opener of a five-game set at Regions Park on Sunday afternoon 4-1. Jackson (19-16) has lost seven of their last 10 but are still only 1 ½  games behind first place Chattanooga in the North Division, second half standings. Generals’ starter Matt Fox was perfect in his first 3 innings but started the 4th by walking Tyler Saladino. Carlos Sanchez drove in Saladino with his 2nd double of the season. Sanchez later scored on a single by Brady Shoemaker to make the score 2-0 Barons. The Barons added 2 more runs in the 8th inning to extend the lead to 4-0. In the 9th inning, Ralph Henriquez reached on his 2nd double of the game and advanced to third on a single by Kalian Sams. Henriquez scored the Generals’ only run after a throwing error by Barons catcher Miguel Gonzalez in the 9th. That play set the final score of 4-1. Fox (0-1), in his first Jackson start allowed two runs over four innings pitched, walking two suffered the loss. Henriquez picked up 3 of Jackson’s 6 hits, going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and a run.

GENERALS RECAP: Anthony Fernandez allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in the 1st inning, but surrendered just 3 hits over the next 6 innings. The effort wasn’t enough on Saturday as Montgomery won the rubber match in 10 innings, 3-2. The loss dropped the Generals to 3-8 in extra inning affairs this season.
Jackson trimmed a 2-0 deficit  to 2-1 in the 3rd inning when Nate Tenbrink scored on an error by Mahtook, the Biscuits right fielder. The Generals tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning on an RBI groundout from Ralph Henriquez. The game went to extra innings tied at 2-2 and in the top of the 10th inning Mahtook delivered a sacrifice fly to right scoring Shawn O’Malley giving the Biscuits a 3-2 edge. TODAY’S GAME: Today the Generals continue their 9-game homestand (2-5), with game 4 of the 5-game set with the Montgomery Biscuits (TB). Jackson looks to even the series, trailing in the set 2-1. The Generals are 7-7 against Montgomery this season, 3-3 at Pringles Park. Jackson leads the overall series with Montgomery, 69-66. The two teams meet 11 times during the month of July.

GENERALS RECAP: RH Taijuan Walker tossed 6 shutout innings Thursday night and got homers from Brad Miller and Nate Tenbrink as Jackson defeated Montgomery 5-2. The win snapped a 4-game losing skid. Jackson pulled within 1 ½ game of the Lookouts in the second half SL North standings. Tenbrink delivered a 3-run homer to right with 2 outs in the bottom of the 2nd inning that gave Jackson a 3-0 advantage. The home run was Tenbrink’s 4th of the season. Again with 2 outs in the 4th inning, Miller belted his first Double-A home run to right, a 2-run shot making it 5-0.  Meanwhile, Walker (7-5) notched his second-straight quality start, logging 6.0 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits, striking out 8 and walking none. LH Jose Jimenez pitched a scoreless 8th inning and RH Carter Capps (pictured right, John Shadrick) pitched a a scoreless ninth after a short 17 minute rain delay. Capps earned his league leading 19th save.

TODAY’S GAME: Today the Generals continue their 9-game homestand (1-5), with game 3 of the 5-game set with the Montgomery Biscuits (TB). The Generals look to snap a 4-game losing skid, which ties for a season-long. The Generals are 6-7 against Montgomery this season, 2-3 at Pringles Park. GENERALS RECAP: On a sweltering Wednesday afternoon at Pringles Park, the Generals dropped their 4th straight, losing to Montgomery 4-3. The loss places Jackson in a 0-2 hole in the 5-game series. The loss dropped the Generals to 17-14 in the second half, 2 ½ games behind the league leader Chattanooga, in the second half standings. Montgomery jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead Wednesday by scoring two runs in the 3rd and two runs in the 5th. Jackson broke a streak of 13 straight scoreless innings in the series after a solo homer from Kalian Sams leading off the bottom of the 5th inning. Jackson made it 4-2 in the seventh on a Ralph Henriquez RBI groundout. Stefen Romero pulled the Generals within a run at 4-3 in the 8th inning with a sacrifice fly to center. Jackson went in order in the ninth against Montgomery closer Kirby Yates, who earned his 12th save of the season. Jackson starter Forrest Snow (1-5) took the loss, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits over 5.0 innings pitched. Snow walked 3 and struck out 4. Leury Bonilla led the way offensively for Jackson with a 2-for-3 afternoon at the plate.

GENERALS RECAP: The Generals dropped their 3rd straight Tuesday in the opener against Montgomery at Pringles Park, 2-0. Jackson was shutout for just the 6th time this season. The Generals now trail the Chattanooga Lookouts by 1 ½ games in the North Division 2nd half standings. The game was a pitcher’s duel and scoreless through the first 7 innings. Generals’ starter Brandon Maurer (pictured right, Donna Manns) struck out a season-high 8 batters, tossing 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing just 4 hits.  Montgomery starter Alex Colome (7-3) also tossed 7.0 shutout innings and picked up the win. In the 8th, Jackson reliever Jonathan Arias (1-3) walked the bases loaded with two outs and balked in the first run of the game. Shawn O’Malley crossed the plate and the Biscuits led 1-0. Arias suffered the loss. Montgomery made it 2-0 in the top of the 9th with a solo homer by Greg Sexton against reliever Mauricio Robles. Offensively the Generals were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and only one General collected a multi-hit game. Johermyn Chavez was 2-for-2, with a walk.

TODAY’S GAME: The Generals continue their 9-game homestand tonight with the start of a 5-game series against the Montgomery Biscuits (TB) at Pringles Park. During the month of July Jackson takes on Montgomery 11 times. This season the Generals are 6-5 against the Biscuits.

GENERALS RECAP: The Generals were swept in a double-header by Huntsville on Saturday at Pringles Park. Jackson dropped the 1st game 5-4 in 11 innings, and game two 7-1. The Generals now trail the Chattanooga Lookouts by a 1/2 game in the North Division. This is the first time the Generals have been swept in a doubleheader this season. In game 1, Jackson held a 4-2 lead before allowing 2 runs in the top of the 7th inning to tie the game. The game remained tied at 4-4 until the top of the 11th inning when Huntsville’s Kentrail Davis reached with a 1-out triple and later came home on a wild pitch by reliever Mauricio Robles (2.0,3,1,1,0,1,WP). Starter James Paxton (6.0,7,4,4,3,4) allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in 6.0 innings. RH Yoervis Medina (3.0,2,0,0,2,2) allowed 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out 2 in 3.0 scoreless innings in relief. The Generals tallied 12 hits, including 3 hits by 1B Rich Poythress (3×5, 2 2B, RBI, BB) and 2 hits by 2B Nate Tenbrink (2×5, R, 2B), 2B Stefen Romero (2×5, R, BB), LF Joe Dunigan (2×5, R, 2 2B, RBI, BB) and C Jesus Sucre (2×4). TODAY’S GAME: Trailing in the series, 1-0 to Huntsville, Jackson plays game 2 of the 4-game series in 3 days tonight at Pringles Park. Jackson leads the SL North standings by 1/2 game over Chattanooga. Huntsville is the only team in the league with a winning record against the Generals (9-7).

GENERALS RECAP: The Generals 3-game win streak was snapped Thursday by Huntsville, falling 8-3 in front of 3,220 fans at Pringles Park. Three Generals recorded two-hit games including Chih-Hsien Chiang, who was 2-fo-4 with a run. Chiang now has a season-high 9-game hitting streak. Francisco Martinez was 2-for-4.The Stars opened up the game in the top of the 4th by scoring 4 runs and capping it off with a 2-run double from Josh Prince. The Stars went ahead 5-1 after the big 4th inning. Nate Tenbrink provided some offense for the Generals in the 8th by hitting his 3rd homer of the season, a 2-run shot made it 7-3 Stars after 8 innings. Forrest Snow (1-5) suffered the loss for Jackson surrendering 7 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits over 5.2 innings. Snow walked 3 and struck out 1. Mauricio Robles provided 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for Jackson, striking out 5.

“KISS IT GOODBYE”: Over the course of the last 5 games, the Generals have hit 8 home runs, including 3 multi-homer games. During the past 3 games, Jackson has scored 22 runs. In 16 games in July, Jackson has hit 15 home runs and currently leads the league with 76 homers.

RECORD SETTING NIGHT: Last Thursday, the Generals broke the Southern League record for doubles in one game with 11, eclipsing the previous mark of 10 set by the Mobile BayBears on May 25, 2000.  The Generals also matched the league mark with 13 extra-base hits, becoming the first team to do so without the benefit of a homer.

WILHELMSEN HAVING SUCCESS IN NEW ROLE: Former General and current Mariners closer Tom Wilhelmsen has an active scoreless innings streak that is the 3rd-longest by a reliever in Mariners history, and T7th-longest by any Mariners pitcher… Tom has not allowed run over his last 19 games (8-for-9 in save ops), limiting opponents to .141 (11×78) average while striking out 25: Wilhelmsen has the longest active scoreless streak among AL pitchers:

SEAGER HAS 2-out magic for M’s: The secret to Kyle Seager’s (pictured right, AP photo) success this season has been batting with runners on base…when at least one runner is on base he is batting .305 (39×128), compared to .204 (41×201) with the bases empty…he has been even better with runners in scoring position, ranking 9th in the American League batting .353 (30×85) with 49 RBI with RISP…Seager is tied for the Major League lead with 33 2-out RBI with Andre Ethier (LAD)…
