TODAY’S GAME: The Generals continue their 10-game, 2-city road trip tonight with game 3 of a 5-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field.. The series is tied 1-1. Jackson is in the midst of playing 16 games in 15 days (7-6). On the current road trip to Mobile (2-3) and Chattanooga (1-1) the Generals are 3-4. The Generals are 2 games back of Chattanooga in the SL North second half standings with 8 games remaining in the regular season.
GENERALS RECAP: – The Lookouts came from 4 runs down Saturday night to beat the Generals, 8-5 at AT&T Field. The Lookouts win evened the series and places them 3.0 games up in the division with eight games to play. The Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 4th inning, getting back-to-back-to-back doubles from Mike Zunino, Johermyn Chavez and Kalian Sams. With Jackson leading 3-1 in the 5th inning, Rich Poythress belted a 2-run homer down the left field line extending the advantage to 5-1. Chattanooga rallied and scored 5 runs in the 6th inning against reliever Jose Jimenez. The Lookouts took advantage of 2 Jackson errors in the 7th and an RBI from Jake Lemmerman, scoring 2 additional runs and getting it to 8-5. Jackson starter James Paxton went just 4.0 innings, allowing a run on 5 hits, walking 4 and striking out 5. Jose Jimenez (1-2) took the loss and surrendered 6 runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings of relief, walking 2 and plunking a batter. He did strike out 5. Offensively Rich Poythress was 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored. Mike Zunino was 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Kalian Sams on his 26th birthday was 2-for-4, with a double and RBI.
OF NOTE: INF Rich Poythress has hit safely in 7 of his last 9 games, batting .429 (15×35) with 6 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 10 RBI.

VIRAL VIDEO: During last Wednesday’s perfect game pitched by Felix Hernandez in Seattle, a video of the Generals reaction during batting practice has gone viral. The video featuring Felix’s brother Moises has been aired on MLB.com, MLB Network, ESPN Sports Center and Yahoo Sports today. As of 2:45 this afternoon it had 97,342 views on YouTube.
VIVA LA ROMERO: INF Stefen Romero has hit safely 40 of 48 games with 21 multi-hit games with Jackson since his promotion, batting .335 (63×188) with 33 runs scored, 14 doubles, 4 triple, 9 home runs and 40 RBI. Romero has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games, batting .359 (14×39) with 6 runs scored, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 8 RBI.
MAURER POWER: RH Brandon Maurer has been shut down for the season, but ranks 4th in the Southern League with a 3.20 ERA. He also leads the Generals in wins (9), strikeouts (117) and innings pitched (137.1). Since June 1 he is 7-1 with a 2.50 ERA (24 ER, 86.1 IP) with 10 qualitiy starts in 14 starts. During this stretch has lowered his season ERA from 4.38 to 3.20. In 8 starts since returning from DL on July 3,
“KISS IT GOODBYE”: Over the course of the last 40 games, the Generals have hit 39 home runs, including 11 multi-homer games. The Generals lead the league with 107 homers this season. Jacksonville is 2nd in the league with 100 home runs.
RECORD SETTING PACE: The Generals 75 wins is the fastest to that mark since 2005. The Generals are 5 games off the pace off of the 2005 Diamond Jaxx that won 83 games and 6 off the pace of the 1999 Diamond Jaxx that won a record 84 games. Last season the Generals won just 68 games and the most won since becoming at Mariners affiliate in 2006 was 75 that season.
