TODAY’S GAME: The Generals open a 5 game series tonight in Pensacola, FL against the Blue Wahoos. This is Jackson;s second trip to Pensacola this season. The Generals are 2-3 at Maritme Park and 6-4 overall this season against the Reds AA afilliate.
GENERALS RECAP: Jackson took advantage of a season-high 11 walks handed out by Huntsville pitching to win the rubber match of the 5-game series 6-5 on Monday afternoon. 2B Stefen Romero (2×3, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB) collected his 7th RBI in only his 5th game as a General with a double to left field in the first inning. RF Chih-Hsien Chiang led the Generals with 3 RBI, going 2×4 and 1 double. 1B Eric Campbell hit his hit his 5th home run of the season with a 2-out solo shot in 5th inning. Starter Taijuan Walker (3.0,4,5,5,4,5,HR) tossed 2.0 hitless innings before the Stars’ scored 5 in the 3rd inning. Overall he allowed 5 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts in 3.0 innings.RH Taylor Stanton (4.0,3,0,0,1,1) allowed only 3 hits in 4.0 scoreless inning to earn his 2nd win in relief. RH Yoervis Medina allowed 2 hits in 0.2 scoreless innings to extend his scoreless innings streak to 15.0 innings. RH Carter Capps picked up his 11th save of the season, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2 in 1.1 innings.
HOW BOUT THE NEW GUY: INF Stefen Romero has hit safely in all 5 games with 4 multi-hit games with Jackson since his promotion. During this stretch is batting .450 (9×20) with 4 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 7 RBI.
HIGH-A MAVS WIN FIRST HALF: The Mariners High-A affiliate High Desert came from a 5-2 deficit and scored 6 runs combined in the 5th and 6th inning to beat Rancho Cucamonga 8-5 on Monday night. The win secured the Mavericks the California League Southern Division first half title. The Mavericks currently lead the California League with a .300 (800×2669) average. High Desert also leads the league in
runs scored (486), hits (800), doubles (172), home runs (104) and RBI (447).
HOMER’N JOE: Joe Dunigan won the Southern League Home Run Derby last Thursday in Kodak, TN. Lately games have been a Home Run Derby for Dunigan, now T-2nd in the SL with 14 home runs on the year. He has hit 6 homers in his last 15 games.
