TODAY’S GAME: The Generals open a five-game series tonight against Pensacola at the brand new Blue Wahoos Park located on the Bay of Pensacola.

IN RARE COMPANY:The Generals are T-3rd in all of minor league baseball with 17 wins. Only the Florida State League’s St. Lucie Mets (20-4) and Dunedin Blue Jays (18-6), Texas League’s Tulsa Drillers (18-6), Midwest League’s Lansing Lugnuts (18-6) and PCL’s Fresno Grizzlies (18-6) have more, The PCL’s Omaha Storm Chasers (17-6) and Internatioal League’s Gwinnett Braves (17-7)have 17 wins.

GENERALS RECAP:  On Sunday, Tennessee’s Jonathan Mota belted a 2-run home run in the top of the 10th inning as the Smokies came-from-behind to beat Jackson 5-3 on Sunday afternoon. The loss ended the Generals winning streak at 6 games. Starter Danny Hultzen allowed 3 runs (1 ER) on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4 in 4.2 innings, but didn’t figure into the decision. He allowed all 3 runs in the 5th inning, ending his scoreless inning streak at 16.0 innings (dating back to 4/19). It was the longest scoreless inning streak by a Generals pitcher this season. RH Carter Capps (1.0,1,2,2,1,1,HR) allowed 2 runs in the 10th inning to record his 2nd loss of the season. CF/RF Johermyn Chavez(2×4, R, HR, RBI, BB) added his 2nd straight multi-hit game going 2×4, while recording home runs in back-to-back games.

WHO’S HOT?: In 5 starts this season, Danny Hultzen is 2-2 with a 2.05 ERA (6 ER, 26.1 IP). He has limited opponents to a .149 average (14×94), which is the lowest in the Southern League, while walking 12 and striking out 30. Of his 14 hits allowed only 3 have gone for extra-bases (2 2B, 3B). After allowing 2 runs in his 2nd relief appearance on April 8,
Bobby LaFromboise has not allowed a run in his last 11.2 innings. During this stretch he limited opponents to a .158 average (6×38) while walking 2 and striking out 14. LaFromboise has lowered his ERA from 7.71 to 1.29 in his last 6 relief appearances.
Joe Dunigan has hit in each of his last 5 games, batting .381 (8×21) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 home runs and 4 RBI.
Chris Pettit has hit safely in 6 straight games, batting .348 (8×23) with 3 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple and 3 RBI. LH Brian Moran (11.2), RH Moises Hernandez (9.0) and LH Steve Garrison-DL (4.1) and have yet to allow a run this season.

IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN: The Generals pitching staff has struck out a league-best 225 batters so far this season and also lead the league with a 2.42 ERA. The next closest team to Jackson is Jacksonville at 3.39. Taijuan Walker (2nd), Danny Hultzen (5th) and Andrew Carraway (8th) rank in the top 10 in ERA.
