GENERALS RECAP: After a 42 minute rain delay, the Suns used nine singles on Thursday night to defeat the Jackson Generals, 4-2 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. Jackson jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a 2-out single from C Jesus Sucre that scored 2B Nick Franklin but it was short lived advantage. The Suns scored two runs in the second inning on a Curt Smith 2-RBI single and two more runs in the third on another 2-RBI single by Ryan Patterson in the third. The Generals trailed 4-1. DH Joe Dunigan blasted his ninth homer in the top of the sixth inning, a solo shot that trimmed the lead to the eventual final of 4-2. Dunigan now shares the team-lead in homers with Denny Almonte. RH Taijuan Walker (4-2) was roughed up to the tone of 4 runs (3ER) on 6 hits over 3.0 innings pitched, suffering the loss. It was Walker’s first loss since May 3rd. RH Jandy Sena (3.0 IP), LH Brian Moran (1.0 IP) and RH Yoervis Medina (1.0 IP) combined to shutout Jacksonville over the final six innings. CF Denny Almonte was 2-for-3 for the Generals and DH Joe Dunigan provided the home run and was 2-for-4.
TOPS IN THE LEAGUE:The Generals have the best record in the Southern League, 37-24 and boast the best ERA in the league at 2.98. The next closest is Mississippi with a 3.56 team ERA.
LAFROMBOISE MAKES EIGHT: Eight players from the Generals will represent the North Division in the 2012 Southern League All-Star Game at Smokies Park, the most of any team in the league. Pitchers Carter Capps, Danny Hultzen, Bobby LaFromboise (added today) and Taijuan Walker were all named to the North pitching staff after leading Jackson to a league-leading team ERA this season. Catcher Jesus Sucre, infielder Nick Franklin, and outfielders Denny Almonte and Joe Dunigan were also named to the squad. The 2012 All-Star Game will played on Tuesday, June 16 at Smokies Park in Kodak, TN, with first pitch at 7:15 p.m. EST.
