TODAY’S GAME:The Generals have won 2 straight over Jacksonville and look to win the series tonight in game 3 of the 5-game series against Jacksonville. This is the final homestand of the regular season. Jackson is is 4-3 against the Suns this season.

GENERALS RECAP: – 2B Stefen Romero hit a 2-run walk-off home run with 1 out in the bottom of the 12th innings as Jackson defeated Jacksonville 8-6 on Friday night. The 2-run blast to left field was Romero’s 15th with Jackson and 22nd of the season and the 3rd walk-off homer for the Generals. Romero (3×6, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI) led the team with 3 hits and 4 RBI, while CF Francisco Martinez (2×6, R) recorded the team’s only other multi-hit game. LF Chih-Hsien Chiang (1×5, R, HR, 3 RBI) hit hits 5th home run with Jackson, a 3-run shot in the bottom of the 5-run 3rd inning for the Generals. Starter James Gillheeney (5.2,4,3,3,3,10,2HR), who left with a no decision, recorded his 3rd 10+ strikeout game of the season and first with Jackson. He is the 3rd Generals starter to record at least 10 strikeouts in game this season. LH Jose Jimenez (1.0,4,3,3,1,2) allowed 3 runs in the top of the 7th inning to tie the game 6-6, but relievers Forrest Snow (2.1,2,0,0,1,1) and Mauricio Robles (3.0,1,0,0,1,2) combined to hold the Suns scoreless over the final 5.1 innings in relief to secure the win. Robles earned his 2nd win with Jackson, allowing 1 hit and striking out 2 over 3.0 innings in relief.

ALL STARS AMONG US: The Jackson Generals had 3 representatives on the team SL Postseason All-Star Team. Righthanded reliever Carter Capps was named the league’s best relief pitcher, RH Brandon Maurer was named the league’s top right-handed starting pitcher and Jesus Sucre was named the top catcher in the league.

HOME SWEET PRINGLES: The Generals have won 5 straight home games and are 43-24 at home this season as opposed to 35-35 on the road. During the month of August, the Generals were 10-3 at Pringles Park as opposed to 6-11 on the road.

TOPS IN THE SOUTHERN LEAGUE: The Generals lead the league in wins (77), batting average (.260), home runs (112), slugging percentage (.402), total bases (1828) and ERA (3.34)

3RD-BEST SEASON IN FRANCHISE HISTORY: The Generals 78 wins is the 3rd-most in franchise history and most since 2005. The 2005 Diamond Jaxx won 83 games and the 1999 Diamond Jaxx won a record 84 games. Last season the Generals won just 68 games and the most won since becoming at Mariners affiliate in 2006 was 75 that season.

GATOR CHOMP: Mariners 2012 1st rounder out of Florida, C Mike Zunino has hit safely in 9 of 12 games with Jackson, batting .349 (15×43) with 6 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 8 RBI and 4 walks.

HISTORIC SEASON FOR MARINERS MINORS: The Mariners 9 minor league affiliates put together the best season in club history, combining for a 490-399 (.551) record. All but three of the Mariners affiliates have qualified for the postseason in 2012. The organization currently leads all Major League farm systems in wins (490) and winning percentage (.551).

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE ROSTER ANNOUNCED: The Arizona Fall League is set to begin its 20th season on Tuesday, October 9. Each AFL team is comprised of 5 major league organizations working cooperatively. Each organization is required to assign six of their most promising Major League prospects to the league. The roster includes 2012 Generals pitchers Logan Bawcom, Bobby LaFromboise and James Paxton. They will join position players Stefen Romero, Mike Zunino and Nick Franklin. They will join pitcher Carson Smith and infielder Vinnie Catricala, and. Romero is listed as a “taxi squad” member, which means he is only activated only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Generals pitching coach Lance Painter will serve as Pitching Coach for the Peoria Javelinas.

VIVA LA ROMERO: INF Stefen Romero has hit safely in 19 of his last 20 games with 8 multi-hit efforts, batting .354 (29×82) with 17 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs and 16 RBI. Romero has also hit safely 45 of 53 games (w/AB) with 23 multi-hit games with Jackson since his promotion, batting .338 (71×210) with 37 runs scored, 15 doubles, 4 triple, 11 home runs and 48 RBI.

“KISS IT GOODBYE”: Over the course of the last 45 games, the Generals have hit 44 home runs, including 13 multi-homer games. The Generals lead the league with 112 homers this season. Jacksonville is 2nd in the league with 103 home runs.

ALL ABOUT THE HITS: SS Brad Miller currently ranks 2nd amongst all Minor Leaguers this year with 188 hits. Only Reno’s Adam Eaton (193) has recorded more hits than Miller this season. Miller is currently batting .333 (183×549) with 107 runs scored, 39 doubles, 6 triples, 14 home runs and 67 RBI in 134 games combined between High Desert and Jackson.

FIRST ROUND FRENZY:The Generals have had 4 Mariners 1st round picks on the roster this season. INF Nick Franklin (‘09, #27, now in AAA Tacoma), RHP Taijuan Walker (‘10, #43), LHP Danny Hultzen (‘11, #2, now in AAA Tacoma) and C Mike Zunino (‘12, #3)
