GENERALS SWEEP HITTER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK AWARDS
Danny Hultzen, SL Pitcher of the Week, Nick Franklin, SL Hitter of the Week

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (JUNE 4, 2012) – The Southern League announced today that Generals’ starting pitcher Danny Hultzen was named the league’s Pitcher of the Week and Nick Franklinwas named Hitter of the Week. Hultzen and Franklin join teammate James Paxton as a winner of the award in 2012.

Hultzen, 22, made two starts this week, going 2-0, with a 0.00 ERA in 11 2/3 innings. In those starts he allowed just 7 hits along with 5 walks and 12 strikeouts. After allowing 5 runs in 4.0 innings in his first start of the season, Hultzen has allowed only 5 earned runs in 58.1 innings (0.77 ERA), lowering his ERA from 11.25 to 1.44 ERA. During this stretch he has limited opponents to a .149 average (29×195), while walking 27 and striking out 60. Overall in 11 starts this season, Hultzen is 6-3 with a 1.44 ERA (10 ER, 62.1 IP). He has limited opponents to a .152 average (32×211), while walking 30 and striking out 67. GENERALS RECAP: Starter Danny Hultzen (5.2,2,0,0,3,6) plus relievers Yoervis Medina (2.1,0,0,0,1,3) and Brian Moran (1.0,0,0,0,0,0) combined on a 2-hit shutout in 7-0 win over Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon. The win marked Jackson’s 4th in a row and 6th shutout of the season. Hultzen allowed 2 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 6 in 5.2 innings to record his team-leading 6th win. SS Nick Franklin (4×4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB) homered and was 4-for-4 at the plate with a walk and 3 RBI. Franklin is 6×6 with a 1 in his last 7 plate appearances. Franklin, CF Denny Almonte (2×5, R, 2B), LF Kalian Sams (2×5, R, 2 RBI), DH Joe Dunigan (2×5, R) and SS Gabriel Noriega (2×3, RBI) each recorded multi-hit games as the Generals out-hit the Lookouts 13-2.

PRYOR MAKES MLB DEBUT: The first 2012 Jackson General to make a major league debut was Stephen Pryor. The right-hander struck out Paul Konerko of the White Sox with a 100 MPH fastball with two outs and 2 runners on base. In 2 1/3 innings Saturday and Sunday, Pryor allowed one run and struck out four White Sox batters.
