TODAY’S GAME:The Generals face Chattanooga tonight in game 4 of the current 5-game series with Chattanooga. Jackson leads the series, 2-1. With 12 games remaining in the 1st half, the Generals lead Huntsville by 2 games in the division.
GENERALS RECAP: Trailing 6-0 and being no-hit by Chattanooga after 8.0 innings, Jackson scored 4 runs on 5 hits in the 9th, leaving the go-ahead run at the plate. Jackson fell to the Lookouts 6-4 at AT&T Field, ending a 4-game winning streak on Monday night. Chattanooga pitchers Chris Reed, Gayson Aguasviva and Blake Johnson combined to no-hit the Generals through 8.0 innings. In the 9th, 3B Francisco Martinez (1×4, R) singled against Stephen Ames to break up the no hitter. CF Denny Almonte (1×4, R) followed with a 1 out single and then DH Kalian Sams (1×4, R, RBI) plated Martinez with a single making the score 6-1. RH Chih-Hsien Chiang (1×4, R, RBI) brought in Almonte with a single and then LF Chris Pettit (1×2, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB) delivered a 2-run double to bring the score to 6-4. After pinch hitter Joe Dunigan walked Lookouts reliever Logan Bawcom induced a pop up from PH Eric Campbell to end the game. Starter Steve Garrison (4.1,12,6,6,2,2) allowed 6 runs on 12 hits over 4.1 innings, taking the loss. LH Mauricio Robles (2.2,0,0,0,3,3) and RH Moises Hernandez (1.0,1,0,0,0,0) combined to blank Chattanooga over the final 3 2/3 innings.
FRANKLIN, HULTZEN TAKE LEAGUE HONORS: The Southern League announced today that Generals’ starting pitcher Danny Hultzen was named the league’s Pitcher of the Week and Nick Franklin was named Hitter of the Week. Hultzen, 22, made two starts this week, going 2-0, with a 0.00 ERA in 11 2/3 innings. In those starts he allowed just 7 hits along with 5 walks and 12 strikeouts. Franklin, 21, this week batted .407 (11×27), with 2 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 6 RBI, 5 runs and 3 walks. His on-base percentage this week was .467 and slugging percentage, .852.
