GAME NOTES

TODAY’S GAME:
• The Generals, having won 2 straight look to win their 3rd straight series today in game 3 of a 5-game series at Montgomery (2-1) tonight at Riverwalk Stadium…Jackson is coming off back-to-back series victories at HVL (3-2) and vs. BIR (3-1)…have won 8 of 11 overall…will play 12 games with Montgomery over the course of the final 43 games, 7 coming at Riverwalk Stadium.

GENERALS RECAP:
• The Generals scored 6 runs in the first 5 innings Friday, while starter Stephen Landazuri (7.0) and Cam Hobson (2.0) combined shutout the Biscuits, 6-0.
• Landazuri (4-2) worked 7.0 innings for the first time since 4/27/12 while with A- Clinton in a game at Great Lakes. It also was his first win since April 22 vs. Chattanooga.
• Patrick Kivlehan fiinished a triple away from the cycle going 3-for-4 with a single, double and home run. It was his 5th 3-hit performance for the Generals. Kivlehan had 3 of Jackson’s 8 hits.
• Julio Morban (1×5), Leon Landry (1×5), Ketel Marte (1×5, 3B) and Kevin Rivers (2×4, 2B, 2 RBI) had RBI’s in Jackson’s win.
• The shutout was the 7th posted this season by Jackson pitching.

KIVLEHAN IS LOVING LIFE ON THE ROAD:
• INF Patrick Kivlehan had 3 hits, inlcuding a home run on Friday. He currently has a 2014 Southern League best 27-game road on-base streak reaching back to May 22.
• During the streak he is batting .353 (36×102) with 17 runs, 8 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs, 24 RBI and 10 walks. He on-base percentage is .414.

WHAT A JULY FOR THE PIZZA MAN:
• OF Dario Pizzano is batting .375 (15×40) this month with 10 runs, 3 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs, 13 RBI, 11 walks and posted a .500 on-base percentage. His July OPS is 1.300.

ODDS AND ENDS:
• July by the numbers – After batting .294 as a team in June, the Generals are currently batting .289 in July, which ranks 1st in the league. The 15 July home runs ranks T-2nd in the league and 9 wins is T-3rd.
• Individually, Dario Pizzano (.375), Dan Paolini (.354), D.J. Peterson (.333) and Jack Marder (.303) are hitting over .300 this month.
STREAKS:
• Solid Relief – LH Cam Hobson has made 9 relief outings and has a 2.48 ERA (8ER/29.0IP) with 19 strikeouts and 9 walks
• INF Dan Paolini has hit safely 12 of 13 games appeared in July, batting .354 (17×48) with 8 runs scored, 4 doubles, 3 home
runs, 9 RBI and 2 walks.
• OF Dario Pizzano has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games, batting .424 (14×33) with 9 runs
scored, 2 doules, 3 triples, 2 home runs, 13 RBI and 6 walks.
• OF Leon Landry has hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games, batting .309 (25×81) with 10 runs scored, 3 doubles, 1 triple, 5 RBI and 7 stolen bases. Since June 7, Landry has hit safely in 29 of his last 32 games with 15 multi-hit efforts, batting .344 (45×131) with 20 runs scored, 6 doubles, 3 triples, 7 RBI, 3 walks and 13 stolen bases. During this 30 game stretch he has raised his season average from .236 to .285.
• 3B D.J. Peterson has hit safely in 16 of 18 games with Jackson, batting .311 (23×73) with 9 runs scored, 4 doubles, 4 home runs, 8 RBI and 6 walks.

SANCHEZ SOUTHERN LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE WEEK:
• Monday RHP Victor Sanchez was named Southern League Pitcher of the Week, July 7-13. Sanchez recorded the win in his only start during the week on July 12 vs. Birmingham. He allowed only 1 run on 3 hits, while walking 1 and striking out a season-high 9 batters in 8.0 innings.
• Over his last 3 starts, RH Victor Sanchez is 2-0 with a 1.42
ERA (3 ER, 19.0 IP). During this stretch he has limited opponents to a .156 (10×64), while walking 5 and striking out 15.

VIVA LA VARGAS IN THE SECOND HALF OUT OF PEN:
• RH Richard Vargas has appeared in 9 games since the All-Star break going 1-0, and is 3-for-3 in save opportunities, not allowing a run in 10.0 IP. Vargas has walked 5 and struck out 12, while giving up just 2 hits holding opponents to a .057 AVG (2×35). This is after going 0-1, with a 6.12 ERA in the first half going 2-for-4 in save opportunities walking 24 and striking out 30 in 32.1 IP.
