GENERALS RECAP: The Generals and Braves split a doubleheader on Saturday night as Jackson finished the long night of baseball on a high note with a 7-2 win. In game 1, LF Leon Landry (2×3) and 1B Daniel Paolini (2×3) each recorded 2 hits in Jackson’s 1-3 loss. Starter Roenis Elias (4.1,7,3,3,1,4) recorded his 11th loss, after allowing 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. LH Nick Hill (1.2,1,0,0,0,2) struck out 2 in 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. CF Denny Almonte hit a 2-run home run in the top of the 2nd inning to lead the Generals to a 7-2 win over Mississippi in game 2. 1B Ji-Man Choi (3×4, R, 2 RBI) led the team with 3 hits, while 3B Ramon Morla 92×4, R, RBI) recorde the team’s only other multi-hit game. GENERALS RECAP: The Generals swept a doubleheader from Mississippi on Thursday night by winning game 1, 4-1 and taking the nightcap, 6-0. In game 1 Gabriel Noriega (1-4, 2B, 2 RBI) Chris Taylor (3-4, R), Leon Landry (2-2, R, BB), Dan Paolini (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Julio Morban (2-4) combined for Jackson’s 14 hits in game 1. The nightcap was all about the top of the Generals’ lineup. The first 4 hitters, Taylor (2-4, 2 R, 2B), Landry (2-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B), Morban (2-3, R, RBI, BB, 2B) and Ramon Morla (2-4, 4 RBI, 2B, 3B), combined to go 8-for-14, scoring 5 of the 6 runs and added 4 doubles. James Gillheeney (W, 5-6, 4.07) threw only 65 pitches in five innings, allowing a run on six hits earning the win in game 1. Carson Smith (S, 2.14) notched his 13th save with 2 perfect innings, including 4 strikeouts, to finish the game. In Smith’s last 8.2 innings, he has recorded 14 strikeouts, allowing only 4 hits and no runs. Kyle Hunter (W, 2-0, 1.13) made his 29th appearance on the mound and his 3rd start in game 2. Hunter kept the Braves off the scoreboard in 5 innings, giving up only 4 hits to earn his 2nd win. The lefty fanned 2 and walked 1. During the week Choi batted .350 (7×20) with 4 extra base hits (2-2B, 1-3B, 1-HR) and 10 RBIs. Choi also drew 8 walks and registered a .536 on-base percentage.

• OFF WITH A BLASH: OF Jabari Blash belted a solo home run in the 2nd inning Saturday in his first AA at-bat. He joins Tennessee’s Javier Baez as the only Southern League player this year to homer in their AA debut. Blash also notched an RBI in his 2nd game Sunday.

• ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Generals are playing 17 of their final 27 games on the road including 10 games in Mobile. The Generals are in the midst of their longest road trip of the season, 12 games in 10 days to Mobile and Mississippi. Jackson closes out the regular season with a 5-game series in Huntsville.

• SEATTLE GENERALS:…there are currently (7) players on the Seattle Mariners active roster that were members of the 2012 Jackson Generals (RHP Brandon Maurer, INF Nick Franklin, INF Brad Miller C Jesus Sucre (15-day DL), C Mike Zunino (15-day DL) and RHP Yoervis Medina, RHP Stephen Pryor (60-day DL). In total, (9) 2012 Generals have made their MLB debuts and (4) 2013 Generals. (C Brandon Bantz, RHP Hector Noesi, INF Brad Miller, RHP Erasmo Ramirez).

• TRIPLES ADDING UP: OF James Jones recorded his league-leading 10th triple last Wednesday in Chattanooga. He is 1 triple away from tying the  franchise record. Jones is tied with Richard Lewis (10, ‘04) and Chris Walker (10, ‘06). Dwaine Bacon (11, ‘04) and Bo Porter (11. ‘98) are leaders. As a team the Generals have 34 triples which is 2nd-most in the Southern League.

• THE HOME STRETCH: The Generals are in the midst of playing 42 games in 42 days that started on July 23 to close out the regular season. 27 of those games will come on the road and 15 at The Ballpark in Jackson. Jackson’s next off day is scheduled for August 12.
