TODAY’S GAME: the Generals conclude a road series this afternoon with the finale of the 5-game series at Pensacola (3-1)…this is the 2nd and final series between the clubs with Jackson leading the season series 5-4… 24-year-old Chance Ruffin makes his 15th career start and 15th of the season tonight. This is Ruffin’s 2nd start against Pensacola. He has no record with a 1.29 ERA.

DID YOU KNOW?: that the Generals are riding just their 2nd 3-game winning streak of the season. The last winning streak of 3 or more was April 12-15 vs. Montgomery and Mississippi and was part of a season-long 4-game winning streak…Also, DID YOU KNOW? that the Generals back-to-back shutouts in Saturday’s doubleheader was the first in franchise history in a twin bill. GENERALS RECAP: After allowing 3 run in the bottom of the 7th inning, the Generals scored 2 run in the top of the 8th inning to regain the lead as Jackson defeated Pensacola 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. Starter Jimmy Gillheeney (2.0,1,0,0,1,2) allowed 1 hit and 1 walk over 2.0 scoreless innings, but didn’t return after a 1 hour and 33 minute rain delay. LH Kyle Hunter (4.2,2,1,1,1,2,HR) allowed 1 run over 4.0 innings in relief, while RH Andrew Kittredge (0.1,4,3,3,0,1) allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning recording only 1 out. RH Tyler Burgoon (1.2,1,0,0,1,2) earned his 4th win of the season after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings, while RH Carson Smith (1.0,1,0,0,0,2) struck out 2 in a scoreless 9th inning to earn his 10th save of the season. 2B Chris Taylor (2×4, R, 2B, BB), RF James Jones (2×5) and LF Jack Marder (2×4) each recorded 2 of the team’s 10 hits.

GENERALS RECAP: The Jackson Generals snatched a doubleheader sweep Saturday night posting 2 shutout wins over Pensacola. Jackson got its 6th and 7th shutouts of the season with a 3-0 win in the first game. The visitors then put together an impressive encore in the second game, posting a 5-0 victory. The Generals combined to out-hit the Blue Wahoos in the 2 games, 17-3. In game 1, C John Hicks, CF Denny Almonte and 2B Gabriel Noriega each knocked in back-to-back-to-back RBI in a 3-run 3rd inning as the Generals defeated Pensacola 3-0on Saturday. Starter Roenis Elias (6.0,2,0,0,1,8) recorded his 5th win of the season with 8 strikeouts in 6.0 scoreless innings. RH Carson Smith (1.0,0,0,0,0,1) struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th inning to earn his 9th save of the season. Hicks (1×2, RBI), Almonte (1×3, 2B, RBI), Noriega (1×3, RBI), 3B Steven Proscia (1×3, R) and 1B Ji-Man Choi (1×2, R, BB) each recorded 1 of the team’s 5 hits. In game 2, Starter Anthony Vasquez and LH Nick Hill combined on a 1-hit shutout as Jackson defeated Pensacola 5-0. Vasquez (6.0,1,0,0,3,3) allowed only a 1-out single in the 4th inning, while tossing 6.0 scoreless innings. TODAY’S GAME: the Generals begin a road series this afternoon with game #1 of a 5-game series at Pensacola…this is the 2nd and final series between the clubs with Pensacola leading the season series 3-2…2-year-old Anthony Fernandez makes his 12th start of the year vs. Pensacola in game 1 of the series…This is Fernandez’ 2nd career start against Pensacola. In his 2nd AA start in 2012 Fernandez tossed a 2-hit shutout at PNS on 6/28/12 and threw just 99 pitches in the shutout.

GENERALS RECAP: CF Leon Landry hit a 2-run home run and C Michael Dowd recorded 3 hits, but it wasn’t enough as Jackson lost to Birmingham 7-2 on Wednesday night. Dowd (3×4, R, 2B) and Landry (2×4, R, HR, 2 RBI) combined for 5 of the team’s 9 hits with 2 runs scored, 2 extra-base hits and 2 RBI. Starter Chance Ruffin (4.0,7,5,4,2,3,2HR) recorded his 3rd loss of the season, allowing 5 runs (4 R) on 7 hits in 4.0 innings. • NORIEGA’S SPORTS CENTER LOVE: The 6-3 triple play started by Gabriel Noriega to end game one of a doublheader on June 10th against Chattanooga was Monday night’s #3 play on ESPN Sports Center’s top 10 plays.

This is the 3rd and final series between the North Division rivals with Jackson leading the season series 8-6…Since 2008, the Generals are 32-15 at home against Birmingham… Former Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Chance Ruffin gets the start for Jackson…this is his 14th start of the season and 3rd start against Birmingham this season. He is 0-1 and has given up 3 HR in 9.2 innings thus far vs. BIR.

GENERALS RECAP: With one out in the bottom of the 15th inning LF James Jones hit a walkoff single scoring RF Julio Morban as Jackson defeated Birmingham 3-2 on Tuesday night. The game was the longest this season for the Generals at 4 hours and 41 minutes. Jones (2×6, 2B, RBI, BB), Morban (2×6, 2 R, 2B, BB) and 2B Chris Taylor (2×6, BB) each recorded 2 of the Generals 9 hits. 3B/1B Ramon Morla (1×6, 2B, 2 RBI) knocked in a run in each the 1st and 5th inning. Starter Jimmy Gillheeney (7.1,3,2,2,3,4,HR) allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 7.1 innings, but did not figure into the decision. He surrendered his first hit with 2 outs in the 7th and surrendered his first runs in the 8th. Relievers RH Tyler Burgoon (1.0,0,0,0,2,1), RH Carson Smith (1.2,0,0,0,1,1), LH Kyle Hunter (2.2,1,0,0,0,3) and RH Andrew Kittredge (2.1,1,0,0,2,1) combined to hold the Barons scoreless over the final 7.2 innings. Kittredge recorded his first AA win after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings.

GENERALS RECAP: SS Chris Taylor knocked in the Generals only run in the bottom of the 6th inning as Jackson lost to Birmingham 1-4 on Monday night. Starter Anthony Vasquez (6.0,4,1,1,1,2) allowed a run in the top of the first inning and then held the Barons scoreless over the next 5.0 innings. Overall he allowed 1 run on 4 hit and struck out 2 in 6.0 innings. RH Stephen Kohlscheen (2.0,2,0,0,2,4) tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, while LH Nick Hill (1.0,3,3,3,1,2 recorded the loss after allowing 3 runs in the top of the 9th inning. Taylor (2×4) recorded the team’s only multi-hit game.

DID YOU KNOW?…that with 2 hits last night from Chris Taylor he now has 102 hits this season combined between A+ High Desert and Jackson. Taylor is the first Mariner farmhand to 100 hits and is 1 of just 17 minor leaguers to reach the century mark in hits this season.

Hear from John Hicks after last night’s 11-3 win over the Barons.

TODAY’S GAME: the Generals continue a homestand tonight with game #2 of the 5-game series against the Birmingham Barons. This is the 3rd series between the North Division rivals with Jackson leading the season series 6-5… 24-year-old Roenis Elias makes his 15th start for the Generals and 3rd of the season vs. Birmingham. This is his 49th  overall start in his pro career. Elias is 3-2 with a 2.01 ERA on the road as opposed to 0-5 with a 4.20 ERA at home.

GENERALS RECAP: The Generals scored 10 runs between the 3rd and 5th innings as Jackson defeated Birmingham 11-3 on Saturday night. SS Chris Taylor (3×5, 2 R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI) and RF James Jones (3×4, 2 R, RBI) each recorded 3 of Jackson’s 14 hits, while DH Julio Morban (2×4, 2 R, RBI), C John Hicks (2×4, 2 R, 2B, HR, RBI) and 2B Gabriel Noriega (2×4, R, HR, RBI) each recorded multi-hit games. 1B Ji-Man Choi (1×4, R, HR, 4 RBI) drove in a team-high 4 runs on a grand slam with 2 outs in the 5th inning. Starter Anthony Fernandez (6.0,7,2,2,0,5) recorded his 5th win of the season, allowing 2 run on 7 hits in 6.0 innings. RH Tyler Burgoon (1.0,0,0,0,0,0) tossed a scoreless 7th inning and RH Andrew Kittredge (1.0,1,0,0,0,2) tossed a scoreless 9th inning, while LH Kyle Hunter (1.0,2,1,1,0,1) allowed 1 run on 2 hits in the 8th inning.

DID YOU KNOW?…that since 2008 the Generals have a 30-14 record against the Birmingham Barons in games played at The Ballpark in Jackson including 4 of 6 this season.

NEWS & NOTES: 30 of first 75 games have been 1-run games (10-20) which is the 2nd in all of minors…42 of 75 games have been decided by 2-or-fewer runs (13-29) and 7 have been extra-inning games (2-5)…In games decided by 3+ runs the Generals are 20-13.
• ALUMNI REPORT: Mariners SS Brad Miller was 0x5 w/ SB last night vs. Cubs and stole the second base of his career in the 1st…he is the 2nd player in franchise history to record a stolen base in each of his first 2 career games (also: Carlos Guillen; 9/6-7/1998 vs. BAL).  Since 2000, he is the 4th player in MLB to steal a base in each of his first 2 games (Jay Bruce, CIN, 5/27-28/2008; Coco Crisp, OAK. 8/15-16/2002; Mario Encarnacion, COL, 8/26 and 8/29/2001).
• SEATTLE GENERALS:...there are currently (6) players on the Seattle Mariners active roster that were members of the 2012 Jackson Generals (INF Nick Franklin, INF Brad Miller C Jesus Sucre (15-day DL), C Mike Zunino, RHP Carter Capps and RHP Yoervis Medina). In total, (9) 2012 Generals have made their MLB debuts and (3) 2013 Generals. (C Brandon Bantz, RHP Hector Noesi, INF Brad Miller).
• GRAND SALAMI TIME: 1B Ji-Man Choi hit Jackson’s 3rd grand slam of the season June 29th vs. BIR. Brad Miller hit Jackson’s first on May 10th at HVL and Ramon Morla hit the second on June 23rd vs. MOB
• #VOTE CHOI: For the first time, fans will determine the final player on both the U.S. and World Team rosters by casting their votes in the Futures Finalists ballot, available exclusively on MLB.com/futuresfinalists. Generals 1B Ji-Man Choi, a native of South Korea is one of the finalist for the World roster.
• MILLER, WALKER TO THE FUTURES GAME: 2013 Generals Taijuan Walker and Brad Miller were selected to the Futures Game U.S. squad on Wednesday. This is the 1st selection for Miller and 2nd selection for Walker.
• YOUNG GUN: 21-year-old OF Julio Morban is the 5th youngest player in the Southern League. Morban currently is 2nd in the league with a .314 batting average is 3rd in the league with a .495 slugging percentage.
• MR. JONES…MR. JONES: OF James Jones has hit safely in 7 of his last 8 games, batting .344 (11×32) with 5 runs, 1 double, 2 home runs and 8 RBI.
• MORBAN SL HITTER OF THE WEEK: The Southern League announced Monday that Generals outfielder Julio Morban was  named the League’s Hitter of the Week. Morban batted .400 (10×25), with 3 doubles, a home run, 9 RBI and 6 runs scored during the week and opening series of the 2nd half against Mobile. Morban homered, doubled twice and posted a career high 5 RBI in Saturday’s 10-5 win over the BayBears at The Ballpark at Jackson. It’s the first hitter of the week for a General since Brad Miller the first week of the season.
• THE THREE CAVALIERS: With the addition of INF Chris Taylor at the start the 2nd half, the Generals current roster features 3 former Virginia Cavaliers in Taylor INF Steven Proscia and C John Hicks. AAA Tacoma’s roster features 2 former UVA alums in pitcher’s Andrew Carraway and Danny Hultzen. Both were 2012 Generals.
• NORIEGA’S SPORTS CENTER LOVE: The 6-3 triple play started by Gabriel Noriega to end game one of a doublheader on June 10th against Chattanooga was Monday night’s #3 play on ESPN Sports Center’s top 10 plays.
